I’m moving over to blogspot. I won’t be deleting this tumblr, it just won’t be updated anymore really. Everything on here pretty much will be on my new blog.

DOTD girl

A more final edited version of the day of the dead girl that I had previously been exploring with. I could play around with it forever and I do want to add more onto the actual pencil drawing, but this is what I have so far.

Commission prices

I have updated my price list for commissioned drawings as below:

A4 £35
A3 £45
A2 £60

I apologise for any confusion, but I have been debating and trying to see what prices would be best and you may have noticed they have been changing. These are the prices I will be basing any enquiries around.

Please see the COMMISSIONS page for any more information.

Happy Halloween.

Here is a picture of a drawing I am working on at the moment. And as it’s Halloween, it’s keeping with the theme: I like to think that she’s an innocent looking vampire. If there were such a thing, of course.

It is also a drawing done in colour. One colour, but still colour. I love drawing on tracing paper and using a white pencil to highlight. It makes my drawings look that more realistic. Using lead pencil on tracing paper is a nightmare though which is why I tend to end up using coloured pencil  and turning it black and white on the computer. Although I really liked how this image looks and so left it, instead making her lips red.

Just throwing some ideas out there.

The actual drawing isn’t finished, it’s still in progress but I just wanted to play around on Photoshop for a bit for a break from drawing. I need to add things all around her face, I’m just still undecided what to do.

& as a reminder to myself, I need to stop naming files ‘ffdhgdk.psd’ or ‘bfhfsh.jpg’. It’s extremely annoying when I can’t find what I’m looking for because I couldn’t be bothered to name it properly when I saved it.

I need my camera!

So, I’ve been working on some drawings and wanted to play around with them on Photoshop, but realised that I have lent my camera to my parents (who are off on holiday) so I cannot upload any decent pictures of my drawings (I would attempt to use the scanner but it never seems to work for me and it’s only A4). Because I am obsessed with Dia De Los Muertos girls, I am attempting to design and draw some of my own, hence why I wanted Photoshop, so that I can use layers. Tracing paper is currently annoying me, it’s too opaque for my liking.

So have a horrible quality webcam shot of a drawing so far:

I’m still deciding what to draw on her face to get the day of the dead look and what to draw around her. I want to incorporate feathers, but I’m not sure how. This is why I need Photoshop to play around with the images. I need my camera! Also, I wonder if anyone can tell who’s face I based the drawing on…

Oh, and have a shot of me drawing too. The webcams’ contrast totally whited out my drawing, so it looks like I’m drawing nothing.

I’ve got some commissioned drawings that I’ve started working on too. I can’t wait to get them finished and give them to the people who want them. I hope they live up to their expectations!

On an unrelated note

This is not really anything to do with my work, but I came across this site (and I’ve heard about them before) and it’s just ridiculous.

thetattootrainingcourse.co.uk

You cannot learn to tattoo in a day or even 6 weeks. Tattooing is not something that people should take lightly and I am really amazed by some tattoo ‘artists’ that I have come across. I have seen plenty of very bad tattoos and I don’t personally understand how they can get away with it. You have to have talent to be a tattoo artist, I’m sure some people just do it ‘to be cool’ or something. Anyone who goes in for these courses are a fool.

Sorry for the off topic rant, it’s just something I feel strongly about (and could go on for days, but I won’t).

Commission & Links

As I’ve had a lot of interest from people about doing drawings for them, I have added a page COMMISSION where there is details about what I do and prices etc. Please check it out if you are interested.

I have also added another page of links to artists’ websites whom have inspired me and whose work I will forever be envious of. Please check them out HERE

Update!

Another portrait. Added HERE. Next time I will try and draw a picture that is in colour and is not a portrait. Or anything to do with the human body. I seem to be in a black and white rut at the moment. And I draw portraits by default.

I also thought I’d add a little progress shot too.

(And yes, it is Ben Barnes again. They’re good photos to draw).

White and black

I came across a gorgeous photoshoot (of Ben Barnes if anyone is interested, although I feel the drawings don’t look like him all that much..) and one image caught my eye and gave me an idea to try and draw onto black paper with white, pretty much the opposite of what I usually do. I actually sort of found it easier doing it this way round than black (well, grey) on white. Of course, these are quick drawings, but I want to sit down and do a serious, larger piece entirely using white pencil, taking my time with it and see how it turns out. I quite liked these ones.

It’s much easier to draw hair this way too, highlights are easier to draw than a block of dark hair. It actually looks relatively realistic?

Might even try colour on black paper. We’ll see.

Update!

Added the drawings of the infamous trio on the ARTWORK page. I decided to make a WHOLE NEW PAGE dedicated to all the Harry Potter drawings I will hopefully do.

I’m a nerd.

Experimenting

Lately, I have been experimenting more with tones/contrast and using Photoshop to enhance them and to make drawings more digital/illustration like (if that makes sense). This is a picture I’ve been working on today, nothing spectacular, just a face but this image here does look completely different from when I started (as I don’t have a decent scanner I have to photograph my drawings and the tones of the pencil really doesn’t translate well in photos)

See? It does looks better in real life than it does in the photo. I really need to get a decent scanner though.

I did also draw this because I need to practice with drawing hair and make it look more real, not just scribbled pencil. I just never seem to be able to get it right. My art teacher used to joke with me about drawing too many eyelashes too (and just drawing them randomly which is something that I have done with hair in the past, oops!), but thankfully I’ve long since sorted that out. I kind of like it, but I’m not overly happy with it (but then again, I never am happy with anything I do). Like I said, it’s nothing I’ve spent ages on, just a couple of hours. I needed to draw something new anyway. Had lost my mojo a bit lately.

On another note, I did finish the trio from Harry Potter (finally)! I’ll add them on here soon. Now I all I need to do is start drawing more characters.

Harry Potter

So I started on a little project, which I have to admit I have kind of got side-tracked on, which was to try and draw as many of the characters from the Harry Potter films as possible. I couldn’t believe that as much of a Harry Potter fan I am, I had never drawn any of the characters, so I definitely wanted to try it. And as I love drawings portraits, why not?

The images above are of the ones I have achieved so far (just the trio at the moment). I hope to  be able to add more pretty soon, and get the finished versions on my Artwork pages. I am planning to use this site as more of a blog, not just somewhere to host my work, so let’s hope that I can manage that!
